Donald Roy Headrick, 86, long-time resident of Elkhart KS, passed away November 6, 2011, at the Lakepoint Nursing Home in Wichita KS. The son of George and Mary Anna Headrick, he was born on July 28, 1925, and grew up in the community of Adams in Texas County OK. He was a saved and baptized member of the First Baptist Church of Adams prior to serving with pride and honor in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On March 1, 1951, he married Mable Banks of Hardesty OK. His last words to his devoted wife of 60 years were, "I love you."

Donald cherished his belief in Jesus and God, his family, and building things. By example, he instilled a strong deep work ethic into each of his children and raised them to know and value the morals and responsibilities of being a family. Donald was a dairy farmer; a gifted, talented, creative carpenter and handyman; and worked as a roughneck.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jacob and Warren Headrick, and sister Georgia Williams.

He was the proud, compassionate, devoted father of Carolyn (Jess) Nunnelee of Grapevine TX, Marilyn Headrick of Jefferson City MO, Donivan (Martha) Headrick of Lexington KY, Sandra (Terry) Cooper of Forgan OK, Garrett (Sharon) Headrick of Garden City KS, Lavonda (Larry) Wright of Midland TX, and Jonathan Headrick of Wichita KS. It was his honor and privilege to know and love 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Donald is also survived by his wife; sisters Myrtle Pettijohn of Liberal KS and Mary Hintergardt of Guymon OK; and brothers Melbourne Headrick of Hooker OK, Harlan Headrick of Guymon OK, Ivan Headrick of Liberal KS, and Ronald Headrick of Aztec NM.

Donald is buried in the Elkhart Cemetery near his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Sophia Hensley.
