H. Austin (Bo) Mayo, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Friend and Mentor.
Austin was born March 11, 1937 in Hope Arkansas. Dad went peacefully with The Lord, Jesus Christ, February 11, 2009, at his home in Eureka, surrounded by his loving family. He was 71.
Dad graduated from Eureka High School in 1955. He was a genius with automobiles and built many hot-rods. A "back yard" mechanic in his teens and after high school Austin completed trade school to become a superb journeyman mechanic. He worked at P.C. Sacchis, then owned and operated Lorenzo's Service Center in Arcata for nearly 30 years. He went on to work and retire from Pacific Lumber in the Service Department. Dad was always there when his children or a friend burned up an engine, working into the night many times -just because.
Dad fast-pitched softball playing for much of his life and into his late fifties. His teams won many tournaments culminating into first-place taking The State Championship and was named "MVP" for his effort.
Dad was passionate about motorcycles and was a member of the Northern Gold-Wing Chapter, taking road-trips to Canada, Yellowstone and Brice-Canyon. His recent passion was his property at Ruth Lake where he loved spending his time building, watching the deer, and enjoying the company of friends and family who would come up to lend a hand, and sometimes play in the snow. Dad was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, boating,bowling and camping. He loved the Lord and was a dedicated Christian for the majority of his life. He loved the Gospel, playing trumpet and singing in his church. His church family greatly missis him and his music. Of all his passions, it was clear that our father held God, family and friends at his center. Nothing meant more to this man and his integrity and honesty are unmatched. Dad was a loving father, grand father and great grandfather. He was a true and loyal friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. "Until we meet again".
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph M. Mayo, and Vivian I. Mayo, brother, Joseph M. Mayo Jr., and sister, Betty J. Rock.
Dad is survived by daughter and special son-in-law, Phyllis and Bruce Campbell; son and special daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa Mayo; daughter, Rhonda Mayo-King; his loving grandchildren, Jesse, Kyle and Ashley Campbell, Brittany Mayo-Cote, Paige Anderson, Clairese and Sophia Mayo and Kyle Porter, all of Eureka; and his beautiful great grandchildren, Addison Campbell, Miguel Escareno, Xavier Ford and one due in May. He is also survived by neices, Joretta, Marva, Debra, and special nephews, Gaylon Rock, Kenneth Mayo and their families. He also leaves behind his special Aunt, Ollie Mayo of Eureka. He is survived by a large extended family; Richard, Virginia & JD, Kathy, and many others. The family apologizes if you were not mentioned.
