Our beloved mother, Betty Jean Rock, 76, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2007, at the Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, California. She was born to Joseph and Vivian Inez Mayo on November 10, 1930, in Hope, AR. She was a 55 year resident of Humboldt County living in Rio Dell for most of those years. She attended Rio Dell Assembly of God church.

She was preceded in death by our father, Marvin Frederick Rock and her brother Joseph Manual Mayo, Jr.

She is survived by her brother, Herbert Austin Mayo of Eureka, CA. Her children, Joretta Carlene and Chris Nelson of Foster City, CA, Marva Jean and Mike Jackie of Centreville, VA, and Gaylon Marvin and Sherry Rock of Fortuna, CA. She had seven grandchildren: Eric Jewell, Elizabeth Jarrett, Mark Armour, Tanner Micheli, Brice Micheli, Alisha Rock and Allison Jackie. She had five great grandchildren: Jacob Hunt, Corey Hunt, Justin Jarrett, Zachary Harmon and Paige Jewell.

Her accomplishments never cease to amaze us as we reflect on her life. After our father passed away, she began her journey in Education putting herself through College graduating from Humboldt State University. She taught at Rio Dell Elementary for 22 years. After her retirement, she continued to bless her family and her community, in a labor of love, ministering in ways that only she could do. Her presence will be sorely missed by all.

Her love for gardening was evident by her gorgeous flowers and abundance of vegetables. It was no doubt her favorite place to be. Those who frequented her home knew where they could find her if she did not answer the door.

Viewing will be held at Goble's Fortuna Mortuary Wednesday June 20, 2007, from 1-5PM and 7-8:30PM. Her internment will take place at the Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka as it was her desire to be buried and reunited with our father. Our family requests your presence as we join to celebrate her life at the Rio Dell Assembly, 95 Bellevue Avenue, Rio Dell, CA, at 1PM on Saturday June 23, 2007. We will continue our celebration immediately following in the Fireside Hall.
