Luther and his family were farmers, and he stayed in Green county until later moving to Barren County just before 1900.
On Dec 24, 1891, Luther married Elena Ann Shanks, the daughter of Elias and Rebecca Shanks. To this union were born two children: Maymie Atis McCubbin (Mary Swisher), born Nov 27, 1892, and Chester Franklin McCubbin, born Dec 21, 1894. Sadly, a third baby, born Aug 21, 1897, lived only 21 days until death on Sept 11, 1897. Elena died of pneumonia on Jan 21, 1899, at the young age of 26.
A few years later Luther moved to Oklahoma Territory; perhaps it was the loss of his young wife and baby that prompted the move. His son Chester moved with him, but Maymie, now 16, chose to stay in Kentucky with her mother's parents. On Jan. 9, 1909, Luther married Sallie Olivia Cain, daughter of Wesley and Catherine Elizabeth Cain, in Lone Wolf, Kiowa County, Oklahoma. To this union were born two children: Wesley Naugle McCubbin, born Aug 25, 1910, and Esther Lee McCubbin (Bills), born May 11, 1913.
Luther farmed his rural Beckham County, OK, farm as long as he could, but he became ill sometime in the late 1930s. In 1940, he signed the farm over to younger son Wesley after Wesley's marriage in August of that year. Luther died at the age of 73, on Nov 13, 1941.
