George Alfred McCubbin was born in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky, the third of ten children belonging to William Alfred McCubbin and Alice McAlister McCubbin. They were a farming family, with deep family roots long planted in Kentucky soil.
In 1896 George married his Kentucky-born sweetheart, Belle F Jones. They soon relocated to Joplin, MO, where George began work as a railroad laborer for the Frisco Railroad.
George and Belle had three children while living in Joplin: Orel, Willard, and May. They experienced the worst kind of loss when Orel passed away at just ten years of age.
By the 1920 Census, the family was living in Arizona. By 1930 the railroad had taken them to Colorado Springs, where George was a coach inspector for the steam railway (his words).
Sometime before the 1940 census, Belle died, and George moved to Pueblo, CO, where he was self-employed in farming. He had retired from the railroad.
Around 1947 George moved to Reno, NV, where his daughter May was living. He remained there until his death in 1953.
