Mrs. Belle Gillespie
Mrs. Mary Isabelle Gillespie, whose maiden name was Robeson, was born November 3, 1860 at Mr. Pleasant, Iowa, and died in her home in Summerfield, Kansas, July 20, 1920, in the sixtieth year if her age. During her childhood the family moved to Page County, Iowa and located at Page Center where all her girlhood days were spent. On February 18, 1884, she was married to Thomas Gillespie, at Clarinda, Iowa. To this union there was born one son, James, who is a well known citizen of this community. Some years ago her husband lost his life as the result of a runaway.
Besides the son, James, there remain two grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers to mourn her departure. There are also a considerable number of nephews and nieces, and a host of other friends and neighbors counted among those who mourn. The sisters are Mrs. Elizabeth Knox of sterling, Kansas, and Mrs. Kate Frazee of our own community. The brothers are Mr. James Robeson of Sterling, Kansas, Mr. Harvey Robeson of Pawnee City, and Mr. A. R. Robeson of Centralia, Kansas. To this number may be added a sister-in-law Mrs. Nellie Robeson, whose husband was a brother of the deceased, and who died a number of years ago.
Mrs. Gillespie united with the United Presbyterian church in her youth and has always lived a consistent member. She loved the house of God and was always found in her place at public worship unless hindered by ill health.
