Eva G. Nester Swavely, 83, of 1650 Woodlea Road, Orefield, Lehigh County, formerly of Mertztown R.D. 2, died Thursday at 7:20 p.m. in Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, near Allentown, where she had been a patient since Jan. 3.

Her first husband, Russell Nester, died in 1974. Her second husband, Edgar Swavely, died Jan. 6, 1986.

Born in Rockland Township, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Emmaline (Gracely) Angstadt.

She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of New Jerusalem Union Church, Fleetwood R.D. 1.

She was employed as a trimmer for 10 years by the former Marcus Manufactoring facility in Topton, retiring in 1960. Prior to that, she owned and operated two diners - Mertz's Luncheonette in Mertztown from 1953 to 1955, and Eva's Luncheonette on Rt. 222 near Breinigsville from 1950 to 1953.

Surviving are a daughter, Virginia E., wife of Stanley F. Speck, with whom she last resided; a son, Theodore M. Jones, Mertztown; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
