Madeline Waugh, age 70, of 509 S. Main Street, Abingdon, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2000 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. She was born Nov. 3, 1929 in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Frank and Opal Phelps Rood. She married George L. Waugh Sr. on June 14, 1945 in Galesburg. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, George L. Waugh Jr., St. Augustine and Mick Waugh, Kewanee; one daughter, Pat Wolford, Knoxville; six sisters, Corene Koller, Avon, Melba Onion and Wanda Trulock, both of Abingdon, Elaine Johnson, Altona, Willadean Hughey, Jacksonville, Fla. and Barbara Myers, Orange City, Fla.; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. She lived in Abingdon most of her life. She was a homemaker and later worked at the Hardee's Restaurant in Abingdon and was known as "Grandma Hardee'' until retiring in 1995. She was a member of Abingdon Christian Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and also served on several church committees. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Abingdon Christian Church with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church.
