Longtime Havre businessman and retired hotel operator, Theodore (Ted) R. Grant, 70, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Arcola, Ill., one of 12 children, and moved to Havre in 1929. Five years later he began working at the Havre Hotel, which he subsequently purchased in 1968. The business was sold in 1974 due to Mr. Grant's illness.

His popularity developed a wide circle of friends for him and made his hostelry one of the best known in the area.

Mr. Grant was married to Lillian Kolar on Jan. 8, 1942 and the same year had joined the armed forces, seeing military combat in the European Theater through 1945. The World War II veteran was active in Havre's VFW post, the Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge and Havre Aerie of Eagles.

His survivors include his wife Lillian, Havre; a son, George Alex Grant, San Francisco, a daughter Mrs. Teddi Grant Huseini, Burlingame, Calif.; several brother and sisters, including Fred and Ralph Grant, both of Lafayette, Ind., Charlie, Eddie, Hazel and Viola Grant, all of Arcola, Ill. There are also many relatives in the Havre area.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 am. in St. Jude's Catholic Church and interment in Calvary cemetery.
