He was married May 29, 1939, to the former Ida Lorraine Wright, and she preceded him in death on March 22 of this year.
Dale retired in 1963 from U.S. Steel where he had worked for 27 years as an assemblyman. He then worked for Joy Manufacturing, also as an assemblyman, for almost 20 years, and he retired from there in 1982.
Dale was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove for more than 60 years and was always an active member of the church.
He was a member of AFL-CIO Local 223 and IAM Local 1842. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the times he spent with his family.
Dale is survived by his two daughters, Marjorie L. Confer of Franklin and Margaret S. Hughes and her husband, Terry, of Wellford, S.C.; two grandsons, Joseph M. Freehling and his wife, Megan, of Moore, S.C., and Timothy M. Freehling of Pacolet, S.C.; and a son-in-law, Michael Freehling, also of Pacolet, S.C. Also surviving is his sister, Alice Pauline Gold of Oil City.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dale was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Confer; his three brothers, Marion, Ralph and Delane Berlin; and his six sisters, Twila Berlin, Leota Benninger, Violet McCauley, Marguerite Davison, Caroline Stack and Viola Spence.
Family and friends of Dale will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Deeter, pastor of The Caring Place, officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
