Samuel Vail, eldest son of Thomas was born 1654 and died before June 26th 1695 (aet. not over 41 years). He married Elizabeth Hunt in 1677 (US and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900). She was born 1657 and died 3rd of 9th month 1747 (old calendar) at age 91 years and near 6 months. She was a Quakeress and took lively interest in the Woodbridge, N.J. monthly meetings. Samuel was a yeoman and freeholder of Westchester and a soldier in King Philip's War (1675-76). There is ample documentary evidence that Samuel was the eldest son of Thomas. In 1678/9 Samuel agrees to make over certain lots formerly his father, Thomas Vail's to John Palmer. This was about 19 years before he deeded the balance of Castle Hill tract to William Richardson, just after the father's death, -- who had in 1687 transferred Castle Hill to Richardson (Westchester town records: A.L.B. to Vosburgh 1906). Several references to deed transfers by Samuel and his wife Elizabeth are included in Chapter four of the book Moses Vail of Huntington, L.I. 1640 published in 1947 by Wm Penn Vail.

Samuel Vail's wife Elizabeth Hunt married three times. On her death in 1747 she had the surname Griffith. Samuel Vail is the eighth great-grandfather of Douglas Micah Vail and many more.
