Harold August Gehre, a native of Nebraska, a 50-year resident of California and a 16-year resident of Yucca Valley, died Nov. 2, 1987. He was 77.

Mr. Gehre is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lila D. Gehre of Yucca Valley; a daughter, Twila Couzens of Yucca Valley; two sons, Dale Gehre of Atascadero; Larry Gehre of Fillmore, Utah; a brother, Lloyd Gehre of Temple City; two sisters, Verona Churchill of Yucca Valley; Dorothy Enderich of Mesa, Ariz; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gehre had been employed as a ranch foreman for Elder Ranch Citrus for 35 years before retirement. He had been a rock hound for 45 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had been a past member of the Old Baldy Lapidary Society, Pomona Rock Hounds, Jeep Herders, Pomona Valley Bow Hunters and the Yucca Valley Rock Club.

Mr. Gehre had also been a member and past president of the Joshua Tree Gem and Mineral Club and the Hi-Desert Nature Museum Association.

Interment will be in Mountain Valley memorial Park in Joshua Tree.
