L.F. "Jack" Gehre, 65, a Gibbon area farmer, died Monday at a Kearney hospital following a short illiness.

Mr. Gehre was born Dec. 11, 1907, at Crown Point, Ind., the son of Fred and Audrey Swanson Gehre. They moved to a farm near Comstock, Neb., when he was five years old. He grew to manhood in that area and graduated from the Comstock High School. Later, he attended the former Business College in St. Paul.

On June 27, 1932, he married Lois Bartholomew of Overland, Kan., at Lebonon, Neb. They made their home in Overland where he managed a Safeway store. They moved to Kearney in 1934 where he owned and operated a grocery store. In 1952, the family moved to their present farm home north of Gibbon.

He had only recently retired from active farming. He was a member of the Gibbon Baptist Church, the Rob-Morris Mason Lodge of Kearney, the Mid-State Rock Club and was currently serving as president of the Prairie Schooner Camping Club.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, L.D. "Jack" Gehre of Los Alamos, New Mex., and Dr. Jerry L. Gehre of Johnson City, Tenn.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Yucca Valley, Caliif. and Lloyd of San Gabriel, Calif. and two sisters, Mrs. Verona Churchill of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Enderich of South Gate, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gibbon Baptist Church with the Rev. John E. Hooge, pastor of the church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. John R. Brunn a retired pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church of Gibbon.

Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery.
