After Gladys' death Sherman married Sharyn Sparks, she used to bring him to church on Sunday, and waited for him. She was not a member of First Lutheran Church. Philip Nelson was one of the pallbearers for both Gladys and Sherman. He went to visit Sherman once in a while after Gladys died. Sherman set a place for Gladys at the table long after she was gone. Sherman missed Gladys, a great deal. Muriel, Philip's wife, was the director of nurses at the Cosmos nursing home for about 20 years and remembers Sherman when he was there too. It is believed that Sherman and Sharyn divorced and that when Sherman died, there was nothing left for Sherman to be buried. He was cremated by the funeral home in Hector and was held there for a while until they got the go ahead to bury him in the cemetery. Everyone that remembers Gladys or Sherman speaks well of both of them. Notice the grave picture on this memorial. Accoring to church members the vegetation growing on the baby's grave are beautiful Peonies originally planted by Sherman and Gladys in about 1937. The peonies on Sherman's grave were started from the original planting. The pictures were taken in late October 2011 so they are way past their prime for the year, but will return next spring.
