Nathaniel Franklin died on May 3, 1883 in Correctionville, IA. The sons (including Owen) worked on farms mostly for their board and room during the winter months, then for wages during the rest of the year. During the year of 1887 the younger brothers lived with the older brother John E.D. Taylor who had bought a farm of College land in Section 6, Little Sioux Township, Woodbury Co., Iowa known as College Corners. John E.D Taylor was the son of Nathaniel and Evaline.

After the death and shortly before Nathaniel Franklin Taylor's death the sons (including Owen) worked on farms mostly for their board and room during the winter months then for wages during the rest of the year. During the year of 1887 the younger brothers lived with the older brother , John E.D. who had bought a farm of College land in Section 6, Little Sioux Township, Woodbury Co., Iowa known as College Corners.


The E.D Taylor family continued to live on the John E.D. Taylor family farm . They moved to another farm and shortly thereafter John E.D. Taylor moved to Larned, Kansas. Where he married Emma Anna Johnson, Sept 28, 1890.


John Ellis Dye Taylor was born Apr 21, 1853 in Marion, Linn Co., Iowa. The Taylor family suffered a severe financial loss in 1879, Having bought hogs and fed them until ready for market, the price dropped until they were worth nearly nothing. As a result Nathaniel Franklin lost his farm). The family was broken up and separated in 1880. Nathaniel Franklin with his seven sons moved to Woodbury Co., Iowa, shortly after Anna Mariah's Taylor (John ED Taylor's step mother) death. John E. D.'s mother was Evaline Haskell Taylor and she died in 1866. On Aug 23, 1877 Nathanial married America Smith, this was a very short marriage and it is possible that the marriage was not legal. On May 4, 1882 Nathaniel Franklin married Elizabeth (Laughlin) McSparren. They lived near Correctionville, Woodbury Co., Iowa in the NE Quarter of the SW Quarter of Township 89, Range 42, Sec. 11, This was Elizabeth McSparren farm prior to her marriage to Nathaniel Franklin and where she continued to live after Nathaniel Franklin's death.

John E.D. Taylor bought a farm of College Land in Section 6, Little Sioux Township, Woodbury Co., Iowa, known as College Corners. This farm was sold and they moved to another farm two miles south in the Lum Hollow District. John Ellis Dye Taylor moved to Lum Hollow, Iowa then to Larned Kansas where he married Emma Ann Johnson, Sept 28, 1890.

Three daughters,
Katie Uzilla, June 18, 1891;
May Evaline, Apr 28, 1894; and
Sessie Ellen, May 16, 1896. They moved back to Smithland, Iowa in 1898.

Twins, Albert and Albia, were born Jan 28, 1900, Albert died in Sept 1900, Albia died on May 20, 1968, in Minneapolis and is buried in Hutchison, MN in the Oakland Cemetery. Another son was born August 10, 1904 and died August 16, 1914. and Albert died Sept of 1900.

Another set of twins Sherman D. and Sheridan E. were born Sept 17, 1906; Sheridan died May 15, 1938 at Hutchison, Minnesota. where the family had moved after the mother died in 1914. Sheridan's death was due to suicide (hanging).

Herman Chandler was born August 10, 1904 and died in Aug 6, 1914..

Another son Charles Franklin Taylor left the vicinity and seems to have been a wanderer. Eventually he moved to California, he never married. He lived in the area of Los Angeles and died in 1937.

When John ED Taylor left Woodbury County, Iowa in about 1923 he originally moved to Hutchinson, McClod Co., Mn. later moving to Minneapolis where he lived at 3410 Johnson Street NE.

John Ellis Dye Taylor is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson, McCloud Co., Minnesota. He died at his home in Minneapolis, MN - 3410 Johnson Street, NE (he had lived in Minneapolis for 2 years before his death). He moved from Iowa to Hutchinson, McCloud Co., Minnesota in about 1923, He moved to Minneapolis in 1926. He died of Liver and Stomach Cancer. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery.in Section 5, Lot 50, Grave 1. Final expenses paid by his son Albia Searl Thomas Taylor In the Minnesota Dept of Health records John E E Taylor is listed as a retired farmer.
