Boyd's father, an officer in "the King's service", left him, aged 8, in the care of a family friend in Halifax in ~ 1796. Boyd was born in Glasgow on 29 October 1778. His father and the ship he sailed on were never heard from again. Little is recorded or known of Boyd's life until he was apprenticed to a blacksmith in Lawrencetown NS. He married Racheal Beals 29 September 1802. He became a farmer and settled in Springfield. NS. They had 14 children. He is my great great great grandfather. And, from what records remain, he was a great man.
