She was born September 26, 1919 in Summitville, IN, the daughter of Paul Howard and Delight (Bryson) Howard. She was a lifetime resident of Summitville.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Summitville High School-Class of 1937. She received her Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Arts degree from Ball State University. She taught in the Madison-Grant School System at the Summitville Elementary School and the Summitville High School for 37 years retiring in 1986. She was a life member of of the Summitville United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority-Beta Zeta Chapter, the OPC Club, the Modern Priscilla Club and the Madison County Retired Teacher's Association. She was a Past President of the Alexandria Association of Widowed People. Mary Jane enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, knitting, crocheting and traveling. However, she was especially fond of time spent with her girls and grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Glenn) Eddleman and Anita (Robert) Moulton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Edward Brewer in 1966; and a sister, Marjorie Lindamood.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, with Pastor Glen Davis and Brian Wise officiating. Interment will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Monday.
