Leone was born Bessie Leone Scifert, daughter of Frank "Dade" Scifert (1885–1964) and his wife Jessy VERNE Garvin (1887–1970).

Leone was married to Ross Hutson on 10 Jan 1942 in Wolcott, IN.

They were the parents of 2 sons and 1 daughter. They lived in Brookston, IN.

Throughout their lives Leone and her twin sister, Lorene, lived a couple of doors away from each other. Several years before her death the twins moved to MI to be closer to Leone's daughter; and then shortly before Leone's death, the sisters moved to NC to be closer to Lorene's children.
