Fred Scifert, 72, Mulberry, died Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He was ill for several years and seriously ill for two months.

He was born Oct. 8, 1920, to Frank and Verne Garvin Scifert, in Wolcott. He was married in 1942 to Jeanette Bissonnette.

He lived east of Wolcott, on a farm, for several years. He also lived in Florida, Reynolds and Monticello, for a while before moving to Mulberry 1½ years ago.
He graduated in 1938 from Wolcott High School and served in the Army during World War II.

He worked at Alcoa and Ross Gear, both in Lafayette.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
American Legion.

Survivors include three sons; Kerry, Huntsville, Alabama; Denny, Arab, Alabama and Lon, Mulberry; two daughters: Michell, Gary and Wanda Mitchell, Frankfort; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Dwight, Frederick, Mich.; and three sisters; Mrs James (Stella) Tarter, Chalmers; Mrs Leone Hutson, Brookston and Mrs Lorene Williams, Brookston. A son is deceased.

The funeral was Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, Wolcott, with Rev. Tim Alkire officiating.

Military graveside rites were conducted at Meadow Lake Cemetery near Wolcott.
