Marjorie (pronounced Margory) was born in DeWitt Township, Clinton County, Michigan, the daughter of Francis M. Fritz and Fern (Warden) Fritz. Her family moved to Bath, Michigan, and bought a farm so they could have better school conditions for their children. Marjorie was nine years old and in the fourth grade. She liked school and her teacher, Miss Weatherby. They were both killed at the same time along with 44 other people (including her brother, Richard, who died later) when the Bath Consolidated School was bombed by a disgruntled employee. It remains as the worst attack upon a school in the history of the United States.
