She married Jack Vanderveer of Pleasanton, on Dec. 22, 1936, in Boerne. They lived in several south central Texas towns running the rather newly invented movie theaters. They met when Jack was operating the Ban Tex Theater in Bandera. In the 1950s they lived in Bandera taking care of her parents as they aged and eventually Jack and Luella moved to Austin to finish out their working careers. They built their retirement home in Bandera in 1976. Jack died in 1998.
Luella was well known for her skills at cooking, quilting, gardening and the enormous amount of love she gave to her family and friends.
Luella is survived by her son, William (Bill) Gerald Vanderveer and wife, Charlotte of Bandera; his children, Jack Vanderveer, Tina Vanderveer of Medina, TX; Cora Barker and husband, Denny of Jacksboro; daughter, Loretta Nash and husband Bill of San Antonio and her children, Eric Mansfield Nash of New Braunfels and Greg and his wife, Melanie Nash-Loop of Spring Branch; great grandchildren, Christopher Devon Vanderveer, William Travis Vanderveer, Kayla Lenegh Nash and Eric Wiliam Nash; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends of all ages.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Gloria Ann Vanderveer (infant); and grand-daughter, Luella V. Grumbles; her parents, Ed and Cora Mansfield; sisters, Laura Autry Davenport; Minnie Mae Witt, Roxie (infant) and Joyce (Dolly) Mayfield; brothers, Homer, Bruce, Frank, Hayden and Bill Mansfield.
