Betty G. "Sedalia'' Strickland, age 76, of 300 North Jefferson Street, Apt. 308, Abingdon, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. Born Oct. 30, 1923, in Sedalia, Mo., to Ross and Nora Bowser Curtis, she married Earl Kilpatrick. They divorced. She married Roy Strickland in March 1945 in Abingdon. They also divorced. Surviving are four sons, Donald Kilpatrick, Milan; Jack Strickland and Jay Strickland, both of Galesburg and Johnny Strickland, Abingdon; two daughters, Wanda Krans and Linda Bent, both of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earnest Curtis and John Curtis, both of Abingdon; a half brother, Jimmy Curtis of East Galesburg; and one sister, Geraldine DeJaynes of Abingdon. Her parents, one grandson, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
She had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She had worked in central supply at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg. She was also a nurse aide and worked at several area nursing home and assisted in home health care. She also was a cook for several area restaurants. A visitation was held on Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. A private family graveside service will be held at the Abingdon Cemetery at a later date with Eleanor Landon officiating. Memorials may be made to her family.
