85, 407 N. Rotary Drive, died at 9:15 am Friday, August 26, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Moline, IL to Ross L. and Nora Bowser Curtis. He married Rosemary A. Hilfrink on May 25, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Randall W. (and Carol A.) Curtis of St. Petersburg, FL and Dennis R. Curtis of Jacksonville, IL; two daughters, Mary Jo (and Jerry) Moshier of Abingdon, Teresa Edgar of East Peoria; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren: one half brother, Jimmy Curtis of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Johnny Clifford Curtis, three brothers and three sisters.
He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He had also lived in Lowell, AZ for a short time.
He worked at the former American Sanitary Factory in Abingdon and later at the former Gale Products in Galesburg as a drill press operator for 26 years retiring in 1979.
He served in the US Army for five years during WW II. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and golfer and enjoyed bingo and playing cards. He was a registered baseball umpire and umpired several years at the Abingdon ballpark. He was a past member of the Abingdon Auxiliary Police Department. He was a volunteer driver for the Abingdon Ambulance service.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Abingdon Cemetery. Father William Miller will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post. Calling hours will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Banty League.
