William J. 'Billy Joe' Coward of Wills Point, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, 23 August 1985, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas.


Services were held Monday, 26 August, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Burlyn Allison officiating.


Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery.


The Blossom Masonic Lodge conducted graveside rites.


Billy Joe was born 19 Mar 1927, in Powderly, a son of Johel Brock Coward and Mary Lou Crawford Brock.


He attended Powderly schools and married Eleanor Opal Ellis on 9 Apr 1957.


He entered the US Navy in 1945, serving in WW II and the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1962.


He was a driver for the Kenosha Auto Transport of Denton from March 1973 until March 1984 when he retired.


He later worked for a construction firm.


He was a member of the Trestle Board Lodge No. 534, AF & AM, of Quinlan and was a member of the Blossom Masonic Lodge No. 303.


He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Coward, and a sister, Judy Smyers.


Surviving are his wife; two sons, two daughters, five grandchildren, five sisters, three brothers.
