Born March 10, 1903, at Maysville, he was the son of the late Christopher Columbus Burgess and Martha Jane (Martin) Burgess. He was also preceded in death by one infant son; two infant daughters; one brother, Isaac Burgess; four sisters, Lottie Rexroad, Lucy Crites, Otie Smith, and Delphia Teter; and one grandson, Danny Kimble.
Mr. Burgess was a retired timberman and was a member of the Maysville Bible Brethren Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel (Mongold) Burgess, whom he married March 6, 1925; two sons, Ronald E. Burgess and Donald L. Burgess of Maysville; four daughters, Goldie Berg, Maysville, Frances Hinton, Savage, Md., Lois Jean Cloer, Statesville, N.C., and Judy Kimble of Lahmansville; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services are today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with Pastor Steve Raines officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery at Lahmansville.
