Based on information on Ancestry.com,Jemima was born in Chester County, South Carolina to Peter Petrie from the Orkney Islands,St. Andrew's, Scotland and Susannah Hardwick from Prince George Island, VA. Peter Petrie served as a private in the SC militia during the Revolution. He received a military pension and died in Kentucky in 1841.

Jemima and Andrew raised 13 children. All of them lived to adulthood. Their home was between Chester and Feasterville SC. Andrew Feaster was served as a private from 1771-1778 from Fairfield, SC. The military information comes from an approved membership application for the DAR.

After the death of her husband, Jemima moved to North Louisiana. In the 1860 census, she is 78 years old and resides between the property of Ainsley Colvin and Maybury Colvin.

She was considered an intelligent woman, a woman knowledgeable in the Bible and an expert midwife.

Jemima died while visiting her son John Colvin and is buried with other Colvin family members in Mineral Springs Cemetery in Union Parish, Louisiana.
