MRS. J.P. HOLLAND OF M'EWEN TAKEN BY DEATH

LONG SIEGE OF ILLNESS IS ENDED THIS MORNING AT LOCAL HOSPITAL ~NATIVE OF OREGON ~
GRANDFATHER ONE OF STATE'S EARLIEST PIONEERS; FUNERAL IS SATURDAY

Death closed the career of a descendant of one of Oregon's very earliest pioneers when Mrs. J.P. Holland of McEwen passed away at 4:30 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth's hospital. Death followed an extended illness, as Mrs. Holland had been in poor health for many years.

Wilder N. Campbell was born in Eugene, Oregon, December 13, 1874. Her grandfather was Jacob Gellespie (sic), an early Presbyterian circuit rider. Rev. Gellespie took up a donation land claim adjoining the town site of Eugene. Part of his claim is now in the city of Eugene.

Miss Campbell was married to John P. Holland at Eugene November 13, 1894. The young couple lived at Eugene until 1900 when they came to Sumpter, both as school teachers. They remained at Sumpter several years, moving to a farm near McEwen in 1912. This has since been their home. Mr. Holland engaged extensively in livestock raising and has been a leader in farm activities in the county.

Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband J.P. Holland, four children, Wellington of New York City; John of Portland; Charles and Elizabeth of McEwen. There is one grandchild. Brothers and sisters are Charles Campbell, Paisley, Lake county, Oregon; William Campbell, Grangeville, Idaho; Thomas Campbell, Eugene; and Mrs. C.C. Basche of Baker.

Funeral services will be held at the West chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. James A. Fraser of the Presbyterian church will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Hope cemetery.
