Oscar Ellis McKie was the last of six children born to Oscar Johnson McKie (1841 Alabama—1895 Baytown, Texas) and Annie Wright McKie (1852 Mississippi—1932 Morgan's Point, Texas). His father died when he was four, and Oscar Ellis was raised in Baytown and Morgan's Point by his mother. In 1910, Oscar and his mother lived with the family of his sister Ethel Roberts on the Wooster-Goose Creek-and Cedar Bayou Road in Precinct 3 of Harris County. Oscar was a farmer that year, but afterwards he worked as a fisherman. In 1912, Oscar married Louise Elizabeth "Bessie" Hiroms (1894 Goodrich, Polk County, Texas–1977 Pasadena, Texas). She was the daughter of a Polk County carpenter and farmer, the last child of seven children. Both Oscar and Bessie had grade school educations. By 1920, they owned a home in Morgan's Point and Oscar was a fisherman. They had six children between 1915 and and 1930—Lawrence, Roy, George, Lavera Faye, Louise, and Anna. All finished 7th grade except Lawrence who died at twelve of appendicitis. In 1940 Oscar's family lived next door to his sister Clara Mae McKie Foster, and his grown sons worked on dredge boats. He died at age 61 of tuberculosis. At the time of death he lived on South Jamison Street, Morgan's Point. Bessie lived 24 years after Oscar died. She died at age 82 in hospital in Pasadena.
