OBITUARY - FRED C. STELLJES, RETIRED LUMBER WORKER, LONG-TIME RESIDENT, DIES
Fred C. Stelljes, 76, a retired employee of the old Madison Lumber Co. and a resident of the Lewiston area since 1900, died at 7 last night at St. Joseph's Hospital. The cause of death is not known and an autopsy is planned.
Stelljes worked 27 years for the lumber firm and he and his wife later served as custodians at the Lewiston Clinic until their final retirement in 1966.
Mr. and Mrs. Stelljes observed their golden wedding anniversary Jan 12, 1969. They were married at Gifford by her father, The Rev. A. F. Graebener, a Lutheran pastor.
Stelljes was born Nov. 4, 1893, at Strawberry, Kan., and lived there until moving to Gifford with his parents in 1900. He lived at Gifford until 1922 when he and Mrs. Stelljes moved to Walla Walla.
They resided at Walla Walla until 1925 when they returned to Lewiston and he began his employment with the lumber firm.
Stelljes was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Mildred) Kromm, Spokane and Mrs. Henry (Thelma) Dorion, Lewiston; two sons, Delbert Stelljes, Ontario, Ore., and Harold Stelljes, Lewiston; two brothers, Ernest Stelljes, Culdesac, and George Stelljes, Lewiston; a sister, Mrs. Meta Dehning, Lewiston, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Nels Carlson as officiant. Burial will be at Gifford, under the direction of the Brower-Wann Funeral Home.

The funeral for Fred C. Stelljes, 76, who died Thursday, was at 11 a.m. yesterday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Nels C. Carlson, pastor, officiating. Stanley Bjorkland sang hymns and was accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Berry, organist.
Pallbearers, all grandsons of Stelljes, were Leslie Jorgensen, Clarkston, Jeffrey Kromm and Edward Roff, both of Spokane, Stanley Bjorkland, Palouse; and Ronald Dorion and Michael Roe, both of Lewiston. Burial was at Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
