Margaret Hambright was born January 23, 1907, in Dublin. She lived in Hood County most of her life. She and her husband, Sam Hambright, operated the OK Cafe in the late 1930s and early 1940s, located in the historic red bank building on the Granbury Square and later on the south side of the square. Sam worked as jailer and deputy while C.M. Duncan was sheriff. They lived in the Hood County jail for about two years, this being one of Margaret's favorite stories to tell. In 1944, they moved to Fort Worth where they owned apartment houses. Margaret worked for Walter Jetton Cafeteria for a number of years and at Luby's Cafeteria as a cashier. They moved back to Granbury in 1969 and Sam died in 1970. Margaret then moved to Weatherford in 1989 to be near her daughter and family. She was an active participant in the Granbury Senior Center, the Weatherford Senior Center and First Baptist Church "Keenagers" Club. She had an infectious laugh and always had a little joke to tell for every occasion.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Gaylen Dee Smith; three brothers; and three sisters.
Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury, (817) 573-3000.
