Mrs. Winters was formerly employed in the law office of the late D. Lloyd Claycomb and as a public stenographer and notary public. She was later employed by Homeowners Loan Corp., from its opening until 1937, the Unemployment Compensation Office, and the receiver's office of Second National Bank.
She was born September 9, 1898, in Altoona, the daughter of Clement L. and Margaret Frances (Hershey) Nonemaker, and December 31, 1910, in Buffalo, N.Y., married Ellsworth M. Winters, who died September 1, 1978. Surviving are a sister, M. Pauline Miller of Altoona and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Winters was a member of First Church of God, where she had taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of the choir, Women's Missionary Society and Sunday School Class No. 5. She was also a member of Senior Life News and Church of God Home, Carlisle. She was also a member of AARP and Blair County Historical Society. She published a book of poetry and was a contributor of poetry to the Altoona Mirror and the Church of God Advocate. Mrs. Winters was a 1916 graduate of Altoona High School, served as secretary of her class.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Warren H. Replogle Funeral Home.
WINTERS - Services for Lula M. Winters of 3436 Beale Ave. will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Warren H. Replogle Funeral Home, by the Rev. Kenneth E. Smith. Interment at Alto Reste Park. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Warren H. Replogle Funeral Home. She was also a photographer of note.
