Adolph was born to Daniel Samuel Atherley and Ida Amalie Ljungberg (sometimes called "Nielsen").

Adolph married Cora Leona Collins (Person) about 1907, probably in Kansas City, Missouri. He became a step-father to Cora's daughter, Ruth Leona Person. The family moved to Utah and were in Bingham, Utah by 1910.

They lived for a time in Benmore, Tooele County, Utah, where Adolph registered for the WWI Civilian Draft.

They were in Salt Lake City, Utah by the time of the 1920 U.S. Census.

Adolph and Cora divorced sometime after 1920; in 1930 Adolph was in Eureka, Utah, and Cora was in Bingham, Utah.

Adolph married Harriet Augusta Coombs (Sullivan) on May 17, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Adolph died in Provo, Utah, but was buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery near other Coombs family members. Harriet Coombs and her first husband, Michael Sullivan, are buried there, also.
