Daniel was born to John Atherley and Sara Neal.

He came to America about 1862 or 1863, probably as a Mormon convert.

Daniel married Ida Amalie Ljungberg June 26, 1863 in Florence, Douglas County, Nebraska

Ida's emigration was sponsored by the Perpetual Emigrating Fund of the Mormon church. In 1863 Daniel and Ida traveled as a married couple to Utah with an unnamed wagon train.

At first they lived in Newton, Utah; they later moved to Goshen, Utah.

They had at least nine children together.

Daniel died in Eureka, Juab County, Utah at the home of his daughter, Ida Amalie Atherley Carter. His body was shipped to Goshen for burial.

Death of Daniel Atherly

Daniel Atherly aged 80 years died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. C. H. Carter at the Utah mine last Sunday.

Deceased was well known in this part of the state and was born in Nottingham England in 1828 [sic] and came to Utah in 1855 [sic]. He has resided almost continually in Goshen and leaves behind him two sons and six daughters besides numerous grandchildren. His daughters are Mrs. Charles H. Carter [Ida Amalie Atherley]; Mrs. Sarah Reece [Sarah Atherley]; Mrs. Gus Peterson [Paulina Atherley]; Mrs. Inga Hanson [Inga Atherley]; Mrs. Christina Hanson; and Miss Helena Atherly, while the sons are D. J. Atherly and Adolph Atherly.

The remains were shipped to Goshen for burial on Tuesday morning.
