WILLIAM E. ADAMS was born in Lexington County, SC on March 20, 1868 and died in Orangeburg County, SC on September 26, 1940 (Death Certificate # 16266). His death certificate says his parents were William Adams and Nancy C. Spires. However, I cannot find him on any census with this family. If he was born in 1868, Nancy would have been 50 years old when he was born. Maybe he was a grandson born out of wedlock to one of the daughters and raised as a son??

Mr. Adams married Ann Victoria Miller, born October 10, 1863, and had one son, William Louis Adams, born October 25, 1886 in Orangeburg County, SC. On November 19, 1891, when William Louis was about five years old, his mother passed away. She is buried at Bethel Baptist Church near Cope, SC.

William E. Adams then married Teresa Knight, born December 31, 1877. They had three children: Bessie Adams, born September 20, 1892 and died July 10, 1893, Debie "Debra" Bertha Adams, born July 22, 1899 and died August 13, 1908, and Fairy Quincy Adams, born October 22, 1902 and died July 22, 1989 in Greenwood, SC. Bessie and Debie are buried at Bethel Baptist beside their mother who died July 6, 1905 and Fairy is buried in Greenwood, SC.

After the death of his second wife, William married Louella E. Hoffman, born October 25, 1887 in Orangeburg County, SC. From this union five children were born; Addie Lou Adams, born June 18, 1906 and died May 8, 1907, Bailey David Adams born June 17, 1908 and died April 24, 1978, Mizelle Adams, born October 24, 1913 and died November 14, 1974, Infant Son Adams born February 24, 1916 and died March 1, 1916 and Hammond Adams, born December 25, 1919 and died September 22, 1976.

Addie Lou and the infant son are buried at Bethel Baptist Church near Cope, SC. Bailey and Hammond are buried at Calvary Baptist Church, Neeses, SC and Mizelle is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia. Louella Hoffman Adams died April 5, 1947 and is buried beside her husband at Calvary Baptist Church in Neeses, SC.

Five of the children born to William E. Adams lived to adulthood and had families of their own. Many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren have been born and I have tried my best to put the pieces together for my family to see where their heritage began.
