Freda Karst
Galatia - Freda Karst, 92, died today, Oct. 9, at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 21, 1905, at McCracken, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Held) Schwartzkopf.
She married Peter Karst on May 2, 1926, at Milberger, Mr. Karst died Jan. 23, 1969.
She was a long time resident of the Galatia/Milberger area. She was a homemaker and taught school at District No. 43 in northern Barton County and was a hand quilter. She was a graduate of Alexander High School and Fort Hays State University.
She was a member of United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.W., Milberger Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 6240, Russell and German Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, LaVern Karst of Hoisington and Leslie Karst of Galatia; two daughters, Melba Strecker of Sylvan Grove and Twila Bitter of Ulysses; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Schwartzkopf, Samuel Schwartzkopf and William Schwartzkopf; and six sisters, Katie Deines, Lyda Kindsvater, Olinda Popp, Mary Schwartzkopf, Alinda Schwartzkopf and Emma Schwartzkopf.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, with Pastor Carl W. Dietz officiating.
Burial will be in Milberger Cemetery.
Prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
