In 1830 Abigail’s parents sold their land in Virginia, packed their possessions in a Conestoga ox drawn wagon, and set off for Ohio with several other families. For the most part, they had to travel in groups that were related by blood or marriage to make sure they could depend on each other for survival. Abigail Was only about six months old when they left for their trip in March from Virginia to Montgomery County, Ohio. She survived bad weather and sickness that fell upon some of the others traveling with their group. The group of travelers followed National Road (now U.S. 40), which was completed to Columbus, Ohio by then. From Columbus, they followed dry creek beds and Indian trails to Wayne Township, where they settled. The family finally reached their destination in Ohio in September of 1830.

Abigail grew up on the Wayne Township farm (now Carriage Hill Farm) and along with her siblings helped her father make bricks that were used to build their brick house. Their family lived in a log house that was built on the farm by a previous owner Mr. Miller until the brick farm house was completed in 1836.

Abigail died on March 26th 1840 age 10y-6m-22d. The Arnold family buried Abigail upon a hill on the family farm where several other family members were buried as the years passed.
