Mr. J.C. Harkins, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mr. Harkins was born in Union County, Georgia on Tuesday, March 3, 1936, a son of the late James Emory Harkins and Bonnie Maebelle Chambers Harkins. He was a retired automobile mechanic. J.C. had lived in the Atlanta area for 12 years, but had moved back to Blairsville the last 28 years of his life. He was a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114, F&AM, and also was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #1. Surviving are his wife, Margie Bowers Harkins, of Blairsville; daughter and sons in law: Kathryn and Dan Beaty, of Hamilton, Montana, and Patricia and Calvin Collis, of Blairsville; sons and daughter in law: James and Karyn Harkins of Cleveland, GA Robert and Shara Harkins of Blairsville; sisters: Sybil Tyre of Blairsville, Norman Jones, of Jonesboro, GA; and Eula Spence, of St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Charles Harkins, of Atlanta; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Harley Hunter and Brian Contardi officiating. Special music was presented by Elaine Allison and Tara Contardi. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Brian and Chris Harkins, Perry and Leslie Groves, and Michael Warren, and Andy Burks. Masonic rites were presented by Allegheny Masonic Lodge. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. If you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Blairsville Relay for Life, American Cancer Society. Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of arrangements.
