Rites for Elza C. Payne, 49, well-known Muncie resident, who died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the family residence, 1215 S. Madison St., after an illness of several months, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Meeks mortuary. Dr. E.F. Daugherty will be in charge, and burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Payne was employed by the Chevrolet-Muncie, and was a member of the Christian Church and the Loyal Order of Moose, No. 33. He was a veteran of World War I.
He is survived by the widow, Madeline; two daughters, Betty Ruth and Mary Jo, both at home; two brothers, James Payne, of Madison, and Omer Payne, of Cincinnati; and five sisters living in Kentucky.
Friends may call at the residence after noon Thursday or at the mortuary after noon Friday.
