Bertha L. Lain, 81, of 6226 Hall Hill Road died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at home. She was a nurse at St. James Hospital in Hornell and at the Bath V.A. Medical Center. Survivors include two daughters, Nadine Layfield of Canisteo and Jacqueline Hurlburt of Bath; a son, Harry Lain of Canisteo; two sisters, Eldene Stachow of New Bern, N.C., and Arlene Dieterman of Columbia, S.C. She & her husband, Edwin established the "E.H.Lain's Cider Mill" on Hall Hill Road; She played an active role in the operation of the cider mill which is now operated by their son, Harry & family; Predeceased by: her husband, Edwin Lain in 2001; 4-sisters, Hope Evelyn Totten, Helen Rowe, Arietta Mehlenbacher & Amy Skelton
