Mrs. Mary E Moore, wife of Samuel Ramsey Moore, died at her husband's residence, on Kerr's Creek in this county, of pneumonia, on Saturday last, the 13th inst. She was sick but about one week. She was a daughter of the late John C Laird, dec'd, was in the prime of life, a devoted wife and mother, and a most consistent and exemplary Christian lady. She leaves four small children, all of whom have lately been sick, and the youngest a babe of four months, yet in a very critical condition. We tender to this afflicted and bereaved family our sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Lexington Gazette." See photo.

"Died, January 13th, 1883, of pneumonia, in Rockbridge county, Va, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Moore, wife of Samuel R. Moore, Esq., aged about 33 years. Rarely is any community called to mourn the death of one who will be so sadly missed. Attractive natural endowments, sanctified to an eminent degree by grace, made hers a very lovely and symmetrical Christian character. Not only are her husband and three little children greatly bereaved by her death, but so also is a large circle of friends, who were cheered by her love and blessed in her life; while the church she loved so much mourn the loss of one of its most useful members She was the daughter of the late John C. Laird, and sister of Rev. H. R. Laird, of West Va., and Rev. A. F Laird, of Virginia, and Rev. W. R. Laird, of Tennessee. Her fourth child, Elizabeth, about 5 months old, died the 21st inst, surviving her mother seven days God in mercy, no doubt, so soon and in a better home, restored the little one to the mother who seemed so necessary to her welfare." Published in the Central Presbyterian, dated 31 Jan 1883 (see photo).
