John Conrad Buchinger was the seventh of eleven children born to John/Johann Michael Buchinger (1834-1914) and his wife Margaretha Barbara Bauer (1839-1906). His parents were among the Bavarian Lutherans who immigrated in the 1850s and settled the farmlands of Saginaw and Tuscola Counties, Michigan. John Conrad was baptized as Johann Georg Konrad Buchinger on December 2, 1868 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth, Saginaw Co.. He grew up on the family farm in Richville (formerly Frankenhilf) in Denmark Twp., Tuscola Co.

On February 18, 1900 John Conrad married Amanda Mathilde Krueger (1874-1954), the daughter of a neighboring farmer. The wedding was celebrated at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. The couple settled on a farm in Richville and raised three daughters: Erna Wilhelmine (b. 1901), Helen M. (b. 1902), and Florence (1904-1905). John Buchinger died of pneumonia at age forty-seven.

Buchinger—John C. Buchinger, a well known resident of Richville, passed away yesterday at St. Mary’s hospital, where he was taken for treatment two weeks ago. He was born at Frankenmuth November 27, 1868. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, four brothers and five sisters: George, Joseph, Michael, and William, all of Richville; Mrs. W. Reichenbach of Bay City; Mrs. C. Werdick of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. G. Rogner, Mrs. Otto Buetow and Mrs. Otto Mueller, all of Richville. His remains were removed to Deisler’s. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from St. Michael’s Lutheran church at Richville.
