Leo Murtaugh Swanson
The death of Leo Murtaugh Swanson occurred in Butte, Mont, Wednesday afternoon at 4:30, April 16th, at his apartments after an illness of a few hours. Leo was born at the Columbus hospital at Great Falls Nov. 26, 1897. His mother died when he was 18 months old, at which time he was taken by his aunt and reared to manhood. He received his education at Mount Saint Charles college at Helena.
He was married Feb. 16, 1922, to Aileen Connolly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Connolly of Fort Benton. He leaves to mourn his untimely death the wife and daughter Leona, 16 months old, his aunt, Eleanor Murtaugh, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Connolly, who is in California, Mary Connolly, a sister-in-law, and cousin, Frankie Murtaugh.
He served his country during the World War and was a member of the American Legion Post of Fort Benton. He was a member of the Havre Council Knights of Columbus.
The funeral service was held at the Catholic church of Fort Benton, April 22, Father Keating officiating, and the remains laid to rest in the Riverside cemetery. The American Legion attended in a body and conducted its ritualistic service at the grave.
At the time of his death he was agent for the National Surety company of New York. Pallbearers were Stephen O'Malley, Harry S. Green, Robert S. Tingley, E. N. Barrett, Robert Green, H. H. Lehfeldt, all of Big Sandy.
