Piotr Gardynik was born September 10, 1881 in Poland to Albert and Josephine (Hodorek) Gardynik. Peter immigrated to the United States about 1903.

On September 22, 1908 Peter married Apolonia "Alice" Lewandowski. Peter's brother, Ignatius, was the best man in the wedding. Their first child, Edward, was born May 25, 1909. The family seemed to live between two houses: 231 and 233 Williams ave., in Detroit while taking care of Alice's widowed mother, Julianna, until her death in 1913. Peter, Alice, and their five children, Edward, Alice, Irene, Martin and George lived on Williams until 1920.

In 1921 the Gardynik family moved about a mile west to 4296 Bangor. By this time Peter was working for the Detroit Gas Company.

Husband of Alice. Father of Mrs. Alice Kurzynski, Mrs. Irene Rycamber, Martin, PVT George, CPL Harold, and CPL Joseph.
