George Hoover, 77, died at the Memorial Hospital in Mt. Pleasant at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 1962. The son of Andrew and Mary (Burke) Hoover, he was born December 11, 1884, in Henry County, Iowa.. He had been a lifetime resident of Henry County, engaged in farming. He retired eight years before his death and moved to Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

On March 3, 1904, he was married to Margarett Gill, who preceded him in death on August 2, 1956.

Surviving were three sons, Walter and Earl of Mt. Pleasant, Tom of San Diego, California, Mrs. Donald (Edith) Brown and Mrs. John (Pauline) Morrow both of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Dean (Martha) Combs of Burlington; four brothers and sisters, Steve and Andy Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, Paul and John Hoover of Glenvil, Nebraska, Mrs. Harry Ford of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Marie Hoar of Long Pine, California; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Marie and Cecelia, also predeceased him.

His funeral was held at 9 a.m. on August 25th at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Rev. John Manning officiating. Interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
