Aunt May Hurley had three babies die as infants. She and her husband owned a grocery store in their home on North Davidson St. in Charlotte, NC. After her husband's death she continued to run the store and also helped raise her sister Ruth's children, who lived next door. My mother lived with her Great Aunt May while attending college in Charlotte. In late life she moved to China Grove, NC, down the road from her brother, my great grandfather William Atlas Belk.
