Genevieve (Gen) Anderton
March 19, 1922 ~ September 4, 2011
Hometown: Salt Lake City, UT

Genevieve (Gen) Funk Anderton was born March 19, 1922 to John Henry and Annie Matilda Conover Funk in Rochester, Utah. Gen (Tink, as her brother Jack affectionately named her) was the youngest of six children. When she was a year old her family moved a few miles up the road to Ferron, Utah where she was raised.

Shortly after high school, Gen moved to Salt Lake City to work, first at a root beer stand, and later at JC Penney. It was at JC Penney that Bill Anderton came to sweep her off her feet. Having only met Gen once, while being stationed with the CCC's in Ferron, he was in love. Clad in a new suit, handsome as ever, he walked into JC Penney and won her heart forever. Gen and Bill married in Olympia, Washington on July 1, 1942. They were married 57 years until Bill passed away in 1999.

Their love and commitment to each other was always strong, a beautiful and shining example of a happy marriage. They traveled throughout the US in conjunction with Bill's work and professional affiliations. Gen was always so proud of his accomplishments.

Gen worked for Valley Bank for over 20 years and in that time made many close friends. She loved her customers.

Gen was a devoted mother and loved her family dearly. They were always a top priority.

Survived by her daughters Ann Thomson and Dana (Clayton) Thatcher; grandchildren Shaunna (David) Brugger, Amy (Cody Yarger) Thatcher, and Jeremy Thatcher (deceased); great grandchildren Sarah and Michael Brugger.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 5-7 pm and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South.
