William W. Anderton (Bill) passed away on March 19, 1999.

He was born April 20, 1922 in Roosevelt, Utah to Thomas Herbert Anderton and Anna O'Neil Anderton. He lived in the Uintah Basin most of his young life.

He joined the CCC's at age fifteen. While working with the CCC's he learned to swim. Bill always loved the water and was state champion of the AAU in the backstroke event.

He was truly amazing in the water. He taught swimming, life-saving, first-aid and canoeing for many years. He worked at Wasatch Springs as a life guard.

While working with the CCC's at the ripe old age of fifteen, he briefly met Genevieve Funk. They met again at the Coconut Grove a few years later and were eventually married. They have been married for fifty-six years. He was a loving friend and husband.

He had a tremendous pride in his country and proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II in the South Pacific. He always said that the CCC's and the Army helped him to be who he was.

He worked for the City of South Salt Lake for thirty-three years. Dad was a one-man water department for many years. They affectionately referred to him as "Andy". In honor of his birthday several years ago the city named a street "Andy Avenue". He eventually became the Director of Public Works for South Salt Lake.

He was proud of his professional affiliation with the American Water Works Association and served as chairman of the Intermountain Section. Bill was officially recognized by the Utah League of Cities and Towns in 1982 as Outstanding Appointed Municipal Official.

Bill loved to fish and hunt. The annual deer hunt was a time to spend "quality time" with family. Annual family trips to the desert on Easter were the best.

Bill was dedicated to his family. He spent many weekends helping his dad, Gen's mother or visiting with his mother and Elgin. Dad loved to travel.

Mom and Dad spent many months each year in Yuma, Arizona, where they made many lasting friendships. Bill was a kind and gentle man. He never pretended to be something other than what he was. He treated everyone equally. He was a wonderful husband and father.

Bill is survived by his wife Gen; daughters, Ann and Dana (Clayton); granddaughters, Shaunna (David) and Amy; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Michael; brothers and sister, Dee, Ralph, Earl, Ned, Rex, and Pauline.
