Sherman S. Wood departed this life at his home in Silverwood, Mich., Dec. 26, 1927. He had been in poor health for some time being troubled with his heart.
Mr. Wood was born in Atlas, Genessee Co., Mich., June 8th, 1865, being 62 years, 6 months and 18 days of age. He was the son of Robert and Abigal Wood. He came to Dayton township with his parents in the fall of 1874 where he grew to manhood and lived practically all his life.
He received his education in the public schools and was for some years a sucessful teacher. After giving up this profession he took up farming wiwhich he followed until his health compelled him to give this up. He then was a rural mail carrier in Silverwood for fourteen years, being compelled again to give up this occupation, when he bought a hardware store at the same place which business he conducted very successfully until his death. He served his township in various capacities for many years and was its clerk at the time of his death.
Mr. Wood was married to Miss May D. Laws, Oct. 13th, 1891, to which one son, Don R. was born who is now a resident of Mayville. Mrs. Wood died February 28th, 1892.
Mr. Wood was again married to Miss Mary L. Wells, Dec. 8th, 1896, who survives him. To this union two children were born. Lloyd S. of Flint and Lottie A. who is still at home.
Other survivors are two brothers, John P. of Saginaw and J. S. of Flint and three grandchildren, Arthur and Margaret Wood of Mayville and Robert Wood of Flint. Also many relatives and friends.
Mr. Wood became a member of the Odd Fellows when a young man and was honored with every office in the gift of his brethern, being secretary of Silverwood Lodge No. 478 at the time of his demise. He was also a staunch Mason belonging to Mayville Lodge No. 394 under whose direction funeral services were held at the Silverwood M. E. Church. Rev. Nicholas also officiated and interment was at Burlington Cemetery. At his request six Odd Fellows acted as Pall Bearers.
Friends and Relatives from Flint, Saginaw, Detroit, Orion, Caro, Fairgrove, Minden City, Marlette, Clifford, Mayville, North Branch, Yale, Deford, Sault Ste. Marie, Tuscola and Kingston were present at the funeral.
