Walter married Frances "Fannie" M. Scates in Mobile, Alabama 15 Jan 1868.

Walter and Fannie were residing in Whitfield County, Georgia in 1880 but moved to Texas by 1884.

According to records, "Capt. W. P. Hendon" invented a "ball bearing disc plow", which revolutionized farming.
