PHYLLIS ANN (HARTLEY) PACE
April 4, 1935 - Aug. 25, 2011

After a long and painful battle with Alzheimer's, Phyllis Ann (Hartley) Pace left this world at 1:19 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, teaching her family how to face this disease with love and patience.

Phyllis was born to Fern E. (Kinerk) and Earl Hartley on April 4, 1935, in Marion. She was the fourth child of six (two brothers and three sisters). She graduated in 1953 from Marion High School and continued her education in the Methodist Hospital Nursing Program, where she graduated in 1956, becoming a registered nurse the same year, and working at various hospitals. While studying for her state boards on the front porch, she happened to meet an airman on leave from Washington D.C. visiting his parents across the street and the rest is history. Phyllis and Jerry J. Pace (Sr.) were married on Oct. 20, 1956, in Geneva, and began a lifelong love affair with many adventures that enriched their lives.

After living in several places due to the military, they settled in Tipton County in 1967, where they raised their four children in an old farmhouse on U.S. 31. Later, they moved outside of Sharpsville in 1979, enjoying the peace and quiet of the country when their sons and friends were not working on cars. Her home was always comfortable and welcoming as was her smile and heart for family and friends. No matter what, there was always room for an extra person at mealtime and a place to sleep.

She enjoyed reading, collecting recipes and cookbooks, "Paris-ing", studying family history, drinking coffee with her sisters, and loving her family. Phyllis loved her children with all her heart, encouraging them to do what is right. She and Jerry Sr. were most proud that each graduated from high school and went on to further their education, their goal for each child. Her dream is that her grandchildren continue this goal, no matter what the struggle.

Phyllis is survived by the love of her life, Jerry Pace Sr., whom her world revolved around; her four children, Mary, Sharpsville, Jerry Jr. (Terri), Kokomo, Karl (Kim), Sharpsville, and Kurt (Melissa), Kokomo. Also she is survived by three grandchildren that she loved whole-heartedly, Rebecca (Daniel) Miller, Kokomo, Trenton, Sharpsville, and Rachel, Kokomo; along with two step-grandchildren, Roger and Jeremiah Mossholder, Kokomo; who came late in her life. She is survived by her sister, Marylou (Bill) Boyd; in-laws: Ruth Pace, Evelyn Pace-Martin, Jack and Kate Pace, and Ed Sr. and Lou Pace; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday, at Boyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Church St., in Sharpsville with Steve and Sue Archer officiating. Burial will follow at Sharpsville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Boyer Funeral Home in Sharpsville.
